For French children living with their families abroad

Depending on the income of French families, the French government provides financial assistance to guarantee their child’s education from the age of 3 through to the end of secondary school.

Families are informed of the rules governing the award of school grants. Applications can be collected from the school secretary’s office or the Consulate from 1 February of each calendar year. Completed applications must then be returned to the French Consulate before the specified deadline. The results of the scholarship committee are sent directly to the parents by the Consulate.

To be eligible for a bursary, children must :

  • Be of French nationality

  • Reside with their family (father and/or mother, legal guardian) in the country
  • Be registered in the worldwide register of French nationals living outside France (the scholarship applicant must also be registered in this register, regardless of nationality)
  • Be at least 3 years old during the calendar year of the start of the school year (2013) or, over the age of 16, not be more than two years behind in their schooling.
  • Regular school attendance

Families must not be entitled to French social benefits (family allowances, parental leave, etc.).
