The LFIH promotes participatory management involving the entire educational community. Families can get involved in various bodies such as the School Council, the School Board or the Class Councils, which address educational and organisational matters as well as pupil welfare.
The Parents’ Association (APE) is made up of volunteer parents (five members on the executive committee) who represent families, participate in the school’s governance in close collaboration with the management, and initiate projects that strengthen ties within the educational community.
More specifically, the PTA aims to:
- to represent the parents or legal guardians of pupils enrolled at the French School of Havana who are active members of the A.P.E.;
to ensure the proper implementation of the management agreement between the A.E.F.E. and the A.P.E., which came into force on 1 September 2002; - to collaborate with the scholarships committee;
- to safeguard the interests of pupils from a moral, intellectual and material perspective;
- to facilitate relations between parents, the teaching staff and the authorities responsible for the school;
- to contribute to the organisation of school life with the participation of as many of its members as possible;
- to inform its members of the services it offers, to listen to all parent members and to defend the interests of all;
- to organise standing or ad hoc committees, appoint staff or assistants to its office, setting out their duties and remuneration;
- to promote, with the agreement of the school management and in the interests of the pupils and their families, the organisation of any extracurricular or out-of-school activities of an educational, cultural or sporting nature;
- to keep itself informed of reforms in the National Education system, as well as the plans, wishes and recommendations of the teaching staff;
- to ensure compliance with these statutes and the school’s internal regulations, and to keep the entire community of the Lycée Français de La Havane informed thereof.
