Year 4 and Year 5 pupils are taking part in a vote

Elections for class representatives and eco-representatives in Years 4 and 5

This week, we experienced an important moment in our class: the election of our class representatives!
First, we learnt the vocabulary related to elections: candidate, voter, ballot paper, ballot box, polling booth, scrutineer, vote and vote count.
The candidates then ran their election campaigns to present their ideas and win over their classmates.
On Friday, we organised the vote just like a real presidential election! Every pupil had their own voter card. We took a ballot paper, went into the voting booth, and then placed our vote in the ballot box. Two pupil scrutineers were responsible for ensuring the vote ran smoothly.
After the votes had been counted, we found out who had been elected.
This experience gave us a better understanding of democracy, voting and the role of a class representative and an environmental representative. We’re proud to have taken part in this election!
