On Wednesday, the playground was transformed into a real-life laboratory. Year 5 and Year 6 pupils had prepared a series of scientific challenges for their nursery school classmates. Our idea was to spark curiosity, encourage teamwork and show that science can be… magical!
Each nursery school group had to visit all the workshops and try to solve a puzzle:
- The submarine: how can you bring a submerged bottle back to the surface?
- The whirlpool: how can you bring a small tomato and a nut back to the surface?
- It floats! : how can you transform modelling clay so that it floats on water?
- The siphon: how can you transfer water from a full container to an empty one without touching it?
- The magic trick: how does the magician manage to move the magic ball?
The Year 5 and 6 pupils had prepared the experiments carefully: equipment ready, clear explanations, and above all a lot of patience to help the younger children. The intrigued nursery school pupils manipulated, tested, sometimes failed… but always started again with enthusiasm.
By the end of the morning, there were smiles all round: the little ones proud to have risen to the challenges, the older ones happy to have passed on their knowledge. This project showed that science can be shared, explained and experienced together, regardless of age.
